Presented by Lisa Coltrain, this session will cover the latest developments in Arson Law in North Carolina. It fulfills the legal update requirements necessary for renewing NC-CFI certification.

Instructor Bio: Lisa Coltrain is a renowned expert in fire investigation law, with extensive experience in arson cases and legal compliance. She is a sought-after speaker at industry conferences.


3:00 – 5:00 PM: Avenues of Challenge for the Expert Witness

Led by Donel Braxton, this presentation will explore the various challenges faced by expert witnesses in legal contexts, providing strategies for overcoming these obstacles.

Instructor Bio: Donel Braxton has 33 years of experience in fire investigation, working both in public service and private industry. He is known for his insightful analysis and practical approaches to complex legal issues.



Wednesday 2/19/25

8:00 – 5:00 Introduction to Marine Fire Investigation

Conducted by Adam Hollaway, this comprehensive course dives into nautical terminology and boat construction. It will equip participants with the essential knowledge needed to understand vessel systems and the complexities of vessel sinking and recovery.

Instructor Bio: Adam Hollaway is the Director of the Forensic Fire Investigation Team at Travelers Insurance and a certified Marine Fire Investigator. His expertise encompasses both marine and fire investigation disciplines.


Thursday 2/20/25

8:00 – 5:00 Car Fire Investigation

Instructed by Chris Elrod, this course aims to enhance the understanding of fire investigations involving motor vehicles. It addresses the unique and specialized nature of this area, ensuring participants are well-prepared to handle such cases.

Instructor Bio: Chris Elrod is a Retired Captain from the Wilmington Fire Department with over 40 years of fire investigation experience. His extensive knowledge in both public and private sectors makes him a valuable resource for attendees.



There is a $25.00 materials fee for this conference payable to NCIAAI.

Cape Fear will charge $70 for the conference, waived for eligible public safety agencies.
